A case of criminal conspiracy, corruption practices and undue influence on election has been registered on the complaint of two Congress MLAs, police said.

Uttara Kannada's BJP Member of Parliament, Anantkumar Hegde, has sparked controversy by asserting that his party must secure 400 Lok Sabha seats in the upcoming elections to "rectify" the Constitution and undo the perceived harm caused by Congress over the years. This echoes remarks he made in 2019. While speaking to BJP workers in Siddapur taluk on Saturday, Hegde claimed that the Congress had repeatedly amended the Constitution, implementing "anti-people" policies.

On Saturday, the police in Himachal Pradesh filed charges against Ashish Sharma, the independent MLA from Hamirpur, and Rakesh Sharma, father of Chaitanya Sharma, the disqualified Congress MLA from Gagret. Chaitanya Sharma, along with five other Congress MLAs, had engaged in cross-voting during the recent Rajya Sabha election in favor of the BJP candidate in the state. The charges include allegations of influencing the election, bribery, and criminal conspiracy, in addition to violations of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

He added that the Congress recognised and nurtured these leaders and made them Union Ministers, State Ministers, but they chose to run away.

Just days prior to the announcement of the election code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections, Ravindra Waikar, a Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA from Jogeshwari, officially joined the Shiv Sena led by CM Eknath Shinde on Sunday. Waikar had previously faced accusations of misusing BMC land designated for gardens to construct a high-end hotel, entailing a purported involvement in a Rs 500 crore scam.
