On Saturday, the police in Himachal Pradesh filed charges against Ashish Sharma, the independent MLA from Hamirpur, and Rakesh Sharma, father of Chaitanya Sharma, the disqualified Congress MLA from Gagret. Chaitanya Sharma, along with five other Congress MLAs, had engaged in cross-voting during the recent Rajya Sabha election in favor of the BJP candidate in the state. The charges include allegations of influencing the election, bribery, and criminal conspiracy, in addition to violations of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
