How to keep kids safe from this cybercrime targeting teens
Financial sextortion, a growing form of cybercrime conducted by the non-organised group 'Yahoo Boys' in West Africa, has become a global crisis. The FBI and NCMEC have reported significant increases in financial sextortion reports. Scammers target victims through fake social media profiles, using advanced tactics to coerce them into sending compromising photos and videos. They then blackmail the victims into paying a ransom through various payment methods. Instagram, Snapchat, and Wizz are among the most affected platforms. To keep kids safe online, parents should have open conversations, educate about risks on Instagram, clarify misconceptions about Snapchat, warn about the risks of the Wizz app, and raise awareness in the community.
